A baby's crying is perhaps the greatest worry to new parents. When I was new mommy, I felt like crying too every time my baby cried. I felt so helpless not knowing why the baby was crying. She has been fed, has had a nappy change, and is not warm or cold or sick, but still she cried with "gusto".
Babies are "people" too. They too have temperamental differences. Some are easily irritated and upset than others; some are easier to soothe than others. Because of these personality differences, your baby will begin to show his own style and pattern in feeding, crying, waking up and sleeping. If you observe his crying, waking and feeding patterns, you'll be more guided to deal with your baby. A baby cries if he's hungry, wet, sleepy, colicky, sick, irritated and bored. Yes! Babies do get bored. Imagine yourself lying on your back staring at the ceiling for a the better part of a day. Wouldn't you feel bored? So as soon as possible, have crib mobiles or different colored ribbons hanging by his crib. Play soothing classical music, preferably Mozart, at bedtime. Talk to your baby - no baby talk please. Your baby is a little person. Treat him as one.
