The onset of labor, leading to the birth of your baby, will be determined by the baby himself. After months of development in the womb, the hormones produced by the baby;s adrenal and pituitary glands will trigger off your labor contractions. There is a big difference in the form of labor between a woman who is having a first baby and a mother who has had a baby before. I should know!. There are several stages of labor. The first stage is when your uterus starts to contract. The idea is to dilate the cervix about 10 cm, the width necessary to allow the baby's head to pass. On my first delivery, it took me 18 hours to achieve full dilation.
The second stage is when the doctor finally tells you to push. If you're lucky, the baby can come out of the birth push. Well, I was not that lucky. I was so tired and so full of drugs I can't remember the actual birth. I only became conscious when my OBY-GYN said "it's a girl" and I looked at the angry-red-baby glaring at me. Gosh! She was mad too! Probably got tired in the process. The doctor had to use forceps. She just won't come out. Daughter #1 weighed 7 lbs 9 oz.
The third stage is the expulsion of the placenta. You may feel mild contractions here but no need to get all worked-out. You can now begin to relax and contemplate on "how the heck do I take care of a baby?"

I can relate on the pushing with no baby coming out. After hours of pushing and no baby, the dr decided na c-section lang kasi naman my baby was 8.2 lbs. The doctor 'guestimated' her to be 6 so they counted on normal delivery. They even let epidural to wear off baka daw maka push ako pag masakit...buset talaga...hahaha.
ReplyDeleteHay the joys of giving birth...and you did it 5x...what were you thinking? hahaha...nah, I would have another 1 if age is not a factor to me...but....it is...hehe..
