After Birth, Now What?

The easiest part of having a child is the birthing itself. In the actual birthing, you have people helping you out in the process. First, you have your OB-GYN and her assistant(s) in case your doctor has residents training under her. Second, you have your anesthesiologist and his assistants, again, if there are residents on training under your anesthesiologist. Note that the more residents your doctor have, the better it is for you - meaning, your doctor is one great doctor that young doctors doing their residency want to train under him. Third, you have the DR (delivery room) nurses, pediatric nurses, and the pediatrician all cramped up with you in the DR.

After a successful deliver, the new born baby is whisked to the nursery for cleaning and more thorough examinations like the new-born screening test. If all is well with you, the new mom, you'll be taken to the recovery room - to "recover" and basically contemplate on what your life will be now that your are a mom. After you've "recovered" you'll be taken to your private room where, if you're unlucky enough, a throng of relatives are waiting. You smile and answer questions when in reality you just want to be left alone and sleep. Where are all the help during birth? What now? For the rest of your natural life, you are now a mother. A tiny life depends on you. You can make or break this young life. Your life will be integrated with this new baby. Welcome to motherhood.
