HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
It's that time of the year in majority of US homes where family and relatives and friends congregate to celebrate the more than 400 years US tradition. Thanksgiving Day. I know that the main dish would be roast turkey. As tradition dictates ( at least according to US movies I've seen) the father of the house would normally curve the gigantic turkey - all stuffed with whatever. The part or rather the food that intrigues me is pumpkin pie. We don't have pumpkins here in Manila but we do have squash. Would it do all right? And what's the taste of pumpkin pie? Sweet? Meaty? Can someone please describe the taste of pumpkin pie? I don't like turkey. I don't eat turkey. The reason? HERE
Anyway, Thanksgiving day marks the "official" start of the Christmas season. I don't want to be politically correct (I should have said, "start of the Holiday season") for I do know that the reason for the season and the holidays was due to the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. So... Happy Start of the Christmas Season!

ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you :)
ReplyDeleteHere on Thanksgiving...hehe. We just stayed home this TD. Yung SIL kong nag host ng TD moved to a new house recently so walang family gathering. Yep, we have the 'bird'...roasted and some mashed potatoes, pie and baked kamote...
ReplyDeletePumpkin pie...di ako nag bake kasi gusto ng maliit eh yam...kamote in other words so that's what I made. I think you can use kalabasa to make the pie. Yung ibang pumpkin pie recipe nga kamote ang ginagamit eh. I'll look for the recipe and email it to you.
I read your entry about the wake. Ang dami sigurong students ni Marlene na dumalaw kasi she's really well-loved by the kids. It still saddens me to think that she's no longer with us...but she's pain free now. She had a long battle with the Big C. Nauna pa sya kay Mrs. L magkaroon but Mrs. L passed years ago. Malakas kasi talaga ang fighting spirit nya.
Have a relaxing weekend.... whatever is left of it anyway.

ReplyDeletemarlene never stopped teaching pala. she resigned nov.11, then two weeks later, passed away. grabe.
momgen and bluecrystaldude: thanks for the greet! hope your TD was meaningful and fun.
ReplyDeleteHi Lena! We just arrived back home late last night so we didn't have time to prepare for Thanksgiving. But we plan to celebrate it tomorrow, and we'll have roast turkey ( masarap, hehe, tastier than chicken ) sweet potato-marshmallow casserole, baked french toast casserole with maple syrup, chex muddy buddies and maybe pumpkin pie. Oh I like it. We baked one for Halloween last month and Daniel even liked it. It's sweet and yummy! I told Dana pumpkin looks like squash, and he said it is.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Dana and I want to extend our sincerest thankfulness for your warm thoughts and sympathy. Mahirap talaga pag maulila ka na, but Dana remains strong and keeps his faith in God.
