Our house was built in 1985, making it about 23 years old. I originally designed our house to be a two-bedroom spit type affair. Over the years, my house has morphed and it is now almost twice the size of its original. I have always been partial to wood so my house was all wood: outside and inside. Of course, I used reinforced concrete and concrete hollow blocks too but my house is mostly wood. I've had no problems with my design for the first 10 years. of its existence. After that, the wood that I used for the rafters and trusses started to weaken because of leaks in the corrugated roofing. Every year, I see to it that my roof is leak-free to avoid soaking the wooden trusses and rafters. Houses built in the last 10 years have no such problems because the norm now is to use steel trusses and tiles for the roof. Constructing steel buildings is the way to go now.
