Because you're late for work or for your kid's soccer game. You blame and curse your luck and envy those who you perceive are in the fast lane. On the other hand, if you are in the fast lane - believe me, there is always a fast lane and almost always I'm not there - and you are not stressed as in late for any appointment, you barely notice that you are in the fast lane.
You hardly notice those poor drivers and commuters in the slow lane, fuming, cursing and on the verge of heart failures and high blood pressure attacks. If you have not observed it, when you are enjoying smooth sailing or having a string of good luck, you barely complain much less, notice. Once you hit one bad spot or lady luck turns her back on you for just a second, everything from there on seems to be running downhill. Right?
We complain. Lament. Protest. Whine. Why is the other lane moving faster than my lane?
