The University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) opened its 71st season at the Araneta Coliseum, Saturday, July 5,2008. The host for this year's UAAP is the University of the Philippines coinciding with their centennial celebration. Tickets were hard to come by. Daughter #4 tried her best to score tickets for the De La Salle University (DLSU) and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) game slated on Sunday, today!
Tickets for the Sunday games are sold out! I even went to UP last Friday to try bribe someone on giving me tickets. I failed. However, I got to watch the UP Pep Squad practice their routine for the UAAP opening. As of this moment the DLSU and ADMU game is ongoing. It's a very close fight - between the two teams and their minions! You have got to watch a basketball game between the two teams. It's unbelievable! The venue is always filled to the rafters. One half of the coliseum is reserved for the DLSU minions who are in green while the other half of the coliseum are for the ADMU fans in blue. The noise is always deafening! The crowd highly agitated. The alumni of both schools ready to die for the game and glory. Seriously, there's nothing like watching a match between the two schools.
Shucks! Even Mannny Pacquiao graced the event! He was given a citation by the UAAP and a centennial jacket and cap by the UP president. For a moment there I thought UP was going to give Pacquiao an honorary degree! As we say in Filipino parlance: ano ka sinusuwerte? (you're not that lucky!)
Last 40 seconds and ADMU is up by three points! Crap! Final score: 73-79. ADMU won.
