David Cook is the New American Idol

DAVID COOK is the new American Idol. I just knew he will bag the title. Simon practically declared David Archuleta as the winner on last night's three-song showdown of the two Davids. Was that a reverse psychology ploy of Simon? I was just wondering because earlier yesterday, Cowell told the American public who were watching the Ellen DeGeneres show, that Cook will win.

I feel real bad for Archuleta. I think he was sort of expecting to win the title after Simon Cowell's spill last night. Anyway, David A. has all the time to reach peak for he's only 17! David Cook deserved the win. It has been a while since we last saw a real relevant-talented-innovative male singer rise from American Idol. David Cook is the answer.

Say Goodbye Syesha

It's goodbye Syesha Mercado.

The two-part Battle of the two Davids will take place next Tuesday. I have written in my April 17 post that American Idol 7 will be a final showdown between David Archueta and David Cook.

The top three sang three songs each: a song chosen by the one of the judges, a song chosen by the contestant and a song chosen by the producer. David Archuleta was just just okay for me as I did not like this personal choice of With You.. Cook was superb as attested by Simon who commented that David Cook won the round. Syesha sang fine but I can see that she is not cut to be a pop nor R&B nor country singer. She belongs on the stage. Broadway perhaps?

I can't wait till next Tuesday.

Jason Castro: Finally

Last night's theme was Rock 'N Roll. Rock and Roll started in the early 50's the indeed the song choices were vast and varied. David Cook's first song was a 1982 Duran Duran song Hungry like the Wolf. His second choice was a classic 1970's song Baba O'Riley. Syesha did Proud Mary to which Simon commented that it was a cheap imitation of Tina Turner. Randy did not like Syesha's rendition of A Change is Gonna Come and she cried.Clever girl. She got sympathy votes for the raw display of emotion.

David Archueta's winning songs were Stand by Me and Love Me Tender. The two songs were caressed to perfection. Dear old Simon said that David crushed the competition.

So, finally, we say goodbye to Jason Castro. He sang I Shoot the Sheriff ala Bob Marley but, really, far from it. His second song was Mr. Tambourine Man, a classic by Bob Dylan, in which, during the first few bars, Jason forgot the lyrics. Simon bluntly told Jason to "please pack your bags". He did!

Bye Jason. I will not miss your singing but I will definitely miss your smiley-face.

Brooke It Is !

Good-bye Brooke White. Simon comment of Brooke's first song being a nightmare must have made an impact on the voting public. America preferred Jason Castro than Brooke even when his two songs were forgettable. What is it with Jason? Simon is short of telling the American voters to stop voting for Jason. Jason really, really needs to go home!

Next week's show will be a wreck for Jason and Syesha. It is the do or die episode for them. The two Davids are the likely finalists. I like the little David but the big David is brilliant.

Carly Smithson Says 'Bye

I got it wrong! Jason and Brooke are still on! Carly was mistakenly voted out! America, you voted incorrectly.

I just can't believe that Carly's powerful rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar did not convince the American public. Jason, I assume, got votes because of the way he looks- cute to the max! Brooke, I think, got sympathy votes. Carly, even with her powerful voice, did not exude enough magnetism to sail through the competition.

Worry not, Carly. You have a real talent in singing and I just hope that scouts and agents are lurking by your door now. More power to you!

I wonder how Jason and Brooke felt when they were voted safe? Did Jason say OMG, I fooled them again! Have to add more highlights to my super-duper long crop.

Is Brooke planning on winning the competition by continuously projecting a pitiful image every time her performance is lambasted by the judges?

I wonder what Andrew is thinking now.

Webber in American Idol

It's 1:06 a.m. and I just finished watching American Idol 7. There are only six contestants left: Jason Castro, David Cook, David Archuleta, Brooke White, Syesha Mercado and Carly Smithson. The week's theme songs are those composed by the brilliant British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

My first encounter with Webber was in the 70's when his musical Jesus Christ Superstar was premiered and became a hit. The compositions of Webber are not easy to sing because of the great voice range called for.

Tonight, the brilliant performers were Syesha, the two Davids and Carly. I would say it is goodbye to either Jason or Brooke this week. Jason sang Memory from Cats. Hearing his interpretation made me cringe. Heck! I think it even made Jason cringe! Brooke, her voice strained and unsuitable, forgot the lyrics of You Must Love Me from Evita.

Now we wait.

Goodbye Kristy Lee Cook

Yup! Kristy Lee Cook is out of the American Idol picture. It was a Mariah Carey week for the AI-7 top eight. Kristy sang Anyway, a song totally alien to me. Kristy did alright, even Simon said so. I thought Brooke White would be the one voted out as she totally failed to deliver last night. She sped-up the tempo of her song Hero bar per bar.

Carly Smithson also did not do so great with her son Ken Lee, oooopppss! I mean Can't Live or better yet, Without You. David sang When You Believe. He sang it with so much conviction and the timbre of his voice was perfect for the song. Syesha sang Vanishing another unheard-of song for me. It was technically good but there's no "it" in the way she sang. Jason, once again, cute-sied his way into the night. Voice-quality-wise, Jason has none. He continues to remain in AI-7 because he is so appealing. The star of the night was David Cook. His interpretation of Always Be My Baby borders on genius!

I predict ( as if!) that it will be a final battle between the two Davids. Umm.... so who do you think will be Goliath?

Michael Johns Out of AI-7

Michael Johns is out! But-but-but why? He is a real good singer with his own style. He looks good and sounds good! This further proves that the voting populace of good ol' US of A choose by popularity, not by talent.

Remember when Bo Bice was kicked out in AI4 with Carrie Underwood emerging as winner? That was a shocker. What about the time when Taylor Hicks won in AI5 against Katherine McPhee? That was a double shocker.

Johns sang Dream on and the ever mighty Simon thought it was a very good performance. Jason should have been the one voted out. However, due to his cuteness, maybe next week?
