My house is currently undergoing repairs. I hate to see trickles of rain-water on my walls and ceiling. The little holes and cracks in my galvanized iron roofing have warped the part of the ceiling where they are evident. The ever-not-reliable drainage system in our area also caused my house draining system to clog up! The surface water drain runs along the house perimeter and is about 4-5 feet under. The problem lies in digging the drain to expose the clogged part. I just hope that my perceived problem area is correct to minimize the digging. While I am at it, the repairs I mean, I think it's about time to change my overhead tank to stainless steel drums. The galvanized iron tank is old, rusty and leaky. It would be better to replace it than have it repaired.

Watching the necrological service and the funeral procession of the late President Cory Quirino brought on a lot of tears coupled with true sadness for most Filipinos around the world. It was a day of mourning for the Filipinos as they laid to rest a lady of strength, determination and integrity. As I sat glued on television, I can't help but think of the day when I'll be old and gray and will not be able to take care of myself. No parent would like to be a burden to their children especially if there's extensive medical needs.
I have always thought that a home for elderly care is not such a bad option. In some countries, nursing home choices are few. In the USA, to find a nursing home would be easy as the said type of institution has long been established in the USA. There are different choices available for nursing home services and long term care choices like: home care; accessory dwelling units, subsidized senior housing, board and care homes and continuing care retirement communities. Whatever one chooses it's important to see to it that vital services like food, recreational and medical (if need be) are met.

It has been raining on and off for the past month. The rainy season in the Philippines is progressively coming in earlier each year. If this keeps up, the rainy season might fall during the official summer months this part of the world - March to May. Wouldn't that be something?!
I don't hate the rain. It is the rain that fills up our dams for our water and electricity. It is the rain that fills up the rivers and streams that help in irrigating our crops and plants. It is the rain that clears the smog and pollution evident in our cities. It is the rain that brings freshness and coolness to our mostly hot and humid weather. However, if the rain does not let up, too much of it causes flooding. Flooding drowns our crops and plants and sometimes, people too. Too much rain causes heavy traffic which in turn brings havoc to commuters. Many gets stranded in impossible-to-comprehend-and-untangle traffic jams which in turn cause waste of gasoline, time and undue stress to parents waiting for their kids to get home. Too much rain causes my laundry woman to swear and tsk-tsk interchangeably to the yet wet clothes that she washed and hung to dry two days ago. Tomorrow is a new day. As I see it, it is the day I finally succumb to the rain and bring all our dirty clothes to the dry cleaner.

Every so often I see myself with a broken doorknob. It maybe that the brand of doorknobs that I have been buying is inferior quality wise or I have the "broken-door-knob" curse! Remember the post I did about Ethan being trapped inside my bedroom because the doorknob jammed and failed to open? That was one heck of an experience. A few weeks ago, the knob of the door opening to the terrace jammed too and we all had to go around the house to get to the terrace. The other day, I had a heck of a time looking for my househelp. I was in kitchen calling for her for a good 10 minutes and she still won't answer. I was about to blow my top when I heard I faint call coming from inside the bathroom located near the utility room. It was Rose, my househelper. She locked herself in the bathroom and can't get out. It took me another 15 minutes or so to locate the bathroom keys for who the heck keeps bathroom keys? This morning, my hubby went in my son's bedroom to get some stuff. My son only comes home in the weekends thus his bedroom is rarely used. What do you know? The door knob trim came loose and no matter what my hubby did it won't stay put. Solution? Take the whole door hardware out and replace it with a new one. So. What is it with me and wrecked doorknobs? I guess it's time to get high quality door hardware now. As in now!
