As part of Nanay JS's Filipiniana themed birthday celebration, I taught my kids and some of their cousins three original Filipino songs: Ikaw ang Mahal Ko, Dahil Sa Iyo and Bakya Mo Neneng. It was frustrating teaching the boys their parts for, believe it or not (girls included), the songs, except for Dahil Sa Iyo, were unfamiliar to them. We learned and practiced the songs for four Saturdays. On the day itself, we ran through the pieces with the string quartet minutes before the guests started arriving. The result? Not bad, I guess, considering my girls have not been actively singing for years now.
