Of all the sports, I love tennis best. When I was in my teens, the leading tennis players of that time were the likes of Björn Borg, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, John Newcombe, Stan Smith, John McEnroe, and Jimmy Connors. These tennis players have become living icons of the sports. These players are in the roster of Wimbledon Champions. Tennis then was an elitist game. From the moment I saw Chris Evert play the championship at Wimbledon in her cutesy skirt and ruffled bloomers, I have obsessed on playing the game.

Wimbledon is the oldest major tennis championship in the world. There are other major international tennis tournaments like the Australian Open, French Open and US open. Suffice it to say that no tennis player of international caliber would hang his racket until he has had the chance at Wimbledon. Held from late June to mid July, the first ever tournament was under the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 1877. From a lone event of Men's Singles, the tournament has gradually progressed to include, Ladies' Singles, Gentlemen's Doubles, Ladies' Doubles and Mixed Doubles. There is also a tournament for the Youth – Boys' Singles, Girls' Singles, Boys' Doubles and Girls' Doubles – are also held. A wheelchair tennis tournament is also held at Wimbledon. I bet you didn't know that! Special wheelchairs are used for this event.

My dream of playing tennis eventually came true. My first coach was my husband. He lasted 30 minutes and said I should just pay someone to teach me. I did! That was eons ago. Now I play singles on a regular basis. I just love the power, speed and grace utilized when playing. I have more dreams to pursue but first I have to get Wimbledon tickets. Watching the Wimbledon live is just in the offing!
